Total Home Remodeling has worked on remodeling projects for many years, and we are here to assist you with our extensive experience. We have developed a true design-build process that enables us to deliver the highest quality home remodeling projects to each of our clients.
Step 1: Get In Touch With Us
Contacting us is the first step in achieving your remodeling goals. There are three basic ways to reach us: email, phone or filling our contact form out that is shown on the right hand side.
Step 2: Phone Consultation
Once you have contacted us, one of our team members will get in touch with you within 24 business hours after you initially contacted us. Taking a couple of minutes to speak with us briefly over the phone is an excellent way for us to better understand how we can assist you. That also gives us an opportunity to begin understanding your goals and establishing a relationship. This process helps us move to the next step.
Let us know what you are thinking about, be honest and open – and will do the exact same thing in return. That will help us build a solid foundation for your remodel to succeed.
During our phone call we will collect additional information including:
– Confirming your contact information
– Details on your home
– Design expectations
– Project details
– Our process
– Budget
– Timeline
The goal is to get an in-home consultation at the end of the phone call.
Step 3: In-Home Consultation
Our in-home consultation takes around one hour to finish. We want to view your home and the most important areas. After we have had the opportunity to see your space, we will then sit down and talk about more specific information like:
Budget
During your consultation we will discuss your project and a basic budget for it. At this point, you will not receive a written proposal. Having a written proposal is not accurate at this point before the design is finished since it doesn’t account for all of the finer details that must be addressed during the design phase of your project.
Design Retainer
We will go over the design process with you, along with a plan that fits your specific project needs. Providing you with a conceptual design package is our goal here. This includes a comprehensive scope of the work process, along with a project proposal that we break down into more than 20 categories. We will also conduct a comprehensive walk-thru along with our subcontractors to get precise estimates during our design phase. That will help to ensure that everything is accounted for from the very start, to control your budget, by providing you with an accurate estimate.
Our design retainer fees are all based on what your specific project needs are, therefore prices vary from one project to the next.
During our visit you will be asked to sign our design retainer so that we can move forward to the next step, or provide you with a full itemized estimate on a design. We won’t try to pressure you into signing the retainer; however, it is required in order to move forward and is a very important step in your home remodeling project.
Step 4: Design
Whether you’re looking for a kitchen remodel or adding an addition to your home, all remodeling projects need a design. For any remodeling project, design is the absolute foundation. It accurately represents what your area is going to look like after it is finished. It also gives you very specific details that need to done in order to get your project completed.
Our design process has four parts:
Design review: A meeting will be scheduled by our interior designer to meet with you to set a design expectation or style, collect more information on your goals and review your project.
As-Built: We schedule a team member of ours to come out to your house to complete an as-built, and photograph the existing space. The plan shows the space in its current state. After this as-built plan has been completed, our design team starts to work on your design. Depending on how complex your project is, it can take 2-4 weeks to finish.
Preliminary design proposal: At this stage we will meet with you once again in order to review the initial concept and design. Typically this will include 3-D renderings of the designed area, elevations, floor plans, sketches, material samples and inspiration ideas.
Revisions: In a majority of cases, one or two revisions of your space will be done before the design is finished.
Step 5: The Proposal
Once the design is complete, we can begin on the proposal. A time is then scheduled with you for presenting the preliminary proposal and design. The proposal allows you to see what the final cost will be on your remodel based on the project specifics and design.
Our proposal is broken down into more than 20 different phases, which allows you to see what the breakdown on costs are for each remodel phase. Each phase shows approximate cost, actual costs, not applicable or allow item costs, as they relate to your remodel. As we are reviewing the proposal we will explain the costs to you. In addition to breaking the phases down, we also set allowances. Allowances items are the materials you choose for your remodeling project, like flooring, cabinetry, tile, etc. The final allowance item selections will be done with our designer once the contract has been signed by you.
Step 6: Contract Signing
Once the contract is signed we can get your remodeling project scheduled, order supplies, and get the final allowance item selections completed. We use a standard contract, which explains the starting and ending date, breakdown of payments and the items that the State of Minnesota requires.
Step 7: Construction
Once the contract, design and related agreements have been collected, we can begin working on your remodeling project!
